Noel Coward wrote this smashing play in 1930 for his chum, legendary stage actress Gertrude Lawrence. But the genius author/actor crafted a script which is now acknowledged as a true descendant of Shakespeare's love comedies, and father to the screwball and romantic comedies
Amanda and Elyot, divorced veterans of a tempestuous marriage (to each other), each arrive in France for a second honeymoon with a new partner, and clash on the terrace of their hotel. "Ill met by moonlight" doesn't begin to describe it.
