Performance dates: May 11th through May 22nd, 2010

Characters: (roles as described in the script)

Theo Maske ........... A burly, muscular fireplug with a buzz cut.
Louise Maske ......... Very pretty, mid twenties, Theo’s wife.
Gerrtrude Deuter ...  Forty-two and a busybody.
Frank Versati ..........An elegant gentleman.
Benjamin Cohen ..... Sickly, thin, asthmatic.
Klinglehoff .............  An elderly man.
The King ................  Bearing a striking resemblance to Kaiser Wilhelm II.

These descriptions and ages are to be taken with a huge grain of salt. As always, everything depends on who auditions. Scripts are available for loan. Just call or email me. If you can’t make the scheduled audition let me know and I will try to squeeze you in earlier. It is helpful, but not essential, to let me know in advance if you intend to audition.

Characters:

William Gillette – writer and actor playing Sherlock Holmes. Playing age range late 40’s – early 50’s

Bobby Carlyle – Actor and “man-about-town” – In his early 30’s, charming

May Dison – an ingénue – Pretty, strong minded girl in her mid 20’s.

Marian Barrett – Actress and Gillette’s sister, 45-ish, has a brassy, likeable way about her. Comic role

Leo Barrett – Marion’s husband, plays Professor Moriarty – several years older than Marian, but a perfect match for her. Comic role

Louise Parradine – An exotic, diverse former actress – mid to late 30’s

Lilly Warner - Gillette’s aunt - late 60’s or early 70’s – speaks and moves with the grand air of a bygone era

Synopsis:

Set in the Depression era, “The Boxcar Children” tells the story of four newly orphaned siblings, Henry, Jessie, Violet and Benny Alden. When the children find out they’re bound
for separate foster homes, they run away in order to keep their family together. They
manage to elude the authorities and eventually stumble upon an abandoned boxcar that
they fashion into their new home. Pursued by the authorities and a mysterious stranger,
the children discover the rewards and perils of life on the run, as well as the joy of
keeping their family together.

Benny – youngest sibling - boy between the ages of 7 & 9

Violet – girl between the ages of 8 & 12

Jessie – girl between the ages of 13 & 15

Henry – (Jessie’s twin) boy between the ages of 13 & 15

The Kid – non-speaking role, boy or girl between the ages of 7 & 10

Adults -

1 Male – aged 55 to 75

5 Males – aged 25 to 60

3 Females – aged 25 to 60

Cast of characters

Lily (female) 70-ish. An aging but still formidable woman.
Widow of a southern Baptists minister.
Wants a dancing partner without the bother of
waiting around a dance floor, so she hires . . .

Michael (male) mid 40s A sharp-tongued and flamboyant dance instructor.
Gives Lily private dance lessons, swing dance, tango, foxtrot, cha-cha, etc.*
and in the process, the two go from antagonism to friendship.

* dance instruction will be provided.
